Ticket discounts help cushion Bali’s tourism low season: BI

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The Bali Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (BI) said government stimulus in the form of transportation ticket discounts of up to 30 percent has helped ease the impact of Bali’s tourism low season.“Although there is a decline due to seasonal factors, business players remain optimistic about future retail performance,” Head of BI Bali Erwin Soeriadimadja said here on Saturday.According to him, the optimism is reflected in the results of a survey conducted by the central bank involving 100 retail business players in Denpasar, which recorded a Real Sales Index (IPR) of 124.3, representing 6.4 percent year-on-year growth. The government has introduced incentives such as promotional tickets for sea transportation and flights to support economic activity among the public.Survey results also show that the fasting month and the Eid period encourage domestic tourists to return to their hometowns instead of vacationing in Bali.Data from airport operator Angkasa Pura Airports show a 15 percent monthly decline in domestic tourist arrivals, influenced by the Ramadan period and the homecoming season, which has affected the pace of domestic tourist visits. From the perspective of the Balinese community, business players also observe a tendency among residents to restrain spending as they prepare additional funds for religious holidays in March, namely Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr.Therefore, transportation ticket discounts of up to 30 percent for trains, sea transport and toll roads are expected to help support business performance, including real sales.Domestic economy-class airline tickets receive discounts of around 17–18 percent, while ferry port service fees are fully waived. The incentives apply during certain periods to reduce passenger congestion. Train ticket discounts apply from March 14 to 29, sea transportation departures from March 11 to April 5, and air transport from March 14 to 29.
