Gorontalo (ANTARA) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is exploring the potential involvement of its domestic companies, including state-owned renewable energy firm Masdar, in the development of the Bulango Ulu Dam in Indonesia's Gorontalo province.During a visit to the site in Bone Bolango District on Wednesday (August 12), UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Aldhaheri said the facility holds significant economic potential that can be unlocked further through investment and technological expertise from UAE-based enterprises.”We have visited and witnessed the construction of this dam firsthand. I am impressed and pleased with the progress. To provide added value for Gorontalo, we will collaborate with UAE companies, including Masdar, to contribute to this project,” Aldhaheri remarked.Masdar's potential participation is expected to broaden the utility of the Bulango Ulu Dam, transforming it from traditional water supply and irrigation infrastructure into a key component of clean energy development in the region.The dam boasts a storage capacity of roughly 93.5 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 549 hectares. Once operational, the facility is projected to supply raw water for an estimated 880,000 people, irrigate 5,000 hectares of rice paddies, and generate up to 80 megawatts of electricity.This massive capacity paves the way for new avenues of economic development, ranging from enhanced water security and agricultural productivity to renewable energy generation and the creation of local tourism zones.Construction of the Bulango Ulu Dam began in 2019 and is slated for completion in 2026. The anticipated backing from UAE investors and technology firms aims to maximize the facility's operational capabilities upon its conclusion.
