Indonesia, Russia deepen ties in cordial Prabowo-Putin meeting

Jakarta (ANTARA) – A meeting between Prabowo Subianto and Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on Monday took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere.In his opening remarks, Putin expressed appreciation for Prabowo’s visit to Moscow.Prabowo also conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception despite Putin’s busy schedule.“Amid Your Excellency’s busy schedule, you were able to receive me. I am very grateful,” Prabowo said.During the meeting, both leaders discussed a range of strategic issues and explored opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a post on the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account (@sekretariat.kabinet) on Monday that the two sides agreed to strengthen long-term cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector, including oil and gas security and downstream development.They also agreed to expand cooperation in education, research and technology, agriculture, and investment, particularly in Indonesia’s industrial development.Following the meeting, the agenda continued with a limited tête-à-tête session over a luncheon at the Kremlin’s Blue Hall.Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia have spanned 76 years since they were officially established in 1950. Over more than seven decades, both countries have maintained ties based on mutual respect and shared interests.Wijaya noted that Russia holds a strategic position globally. In addition to being a veto-wielding member of the UN Security Council and a founding member of BRICS, Russia is one of the world’s major powers with vast natural resources.“President Prabowo and President Putin last met in December in Moscow and have met five times on various occasions over the past year,” he said.
