Danantara waiting for Hajj Village land tender results

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) has revealed that it is still awaiting the results of a land tender for the Indonesian Hajj Village project development in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.Danantara Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Pandu Sjahrir stated that the finalization process has taken longer than expected due to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East region.”We are waiting for the government there (Saudi Arabia). Actually, we are following up closely. Regarding the lots we have bid on, there should have been news by now, but we are still waiting. We remain in communication,” he said during the Fitch Ratings Annual Indonesia Conference here on Thursday.Regional dynamics have also influenced the process. He noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently prioritizing national stability and defense interests.Nevertheless, Danantara has continued to maintain communication with Saudi Arabia regarding the finalization of the Hajj Village land tender.”We are pursuing (communication), but we also know that the Middle East is currently experiencing tensions,” he explained.Despite this, he ensured that the acquired asset—the Novotel Thakher Makkah hotel—is already available for use by Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in 2026.As previously reported, Danantara was finalizing follow-up explorations in the auction mechanism managed by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC) for potential areas around the Masjidil Haram. As an initial foundation, the Thakher area includes the Novotel Thakher Makkah hotel, which operates with approximately 1,461 rooms across three towers, as well as about 4.4 hectares of development land in a strategic corridor 2-3 kilometers from the Masjidil Haram.”We are building the Hajj complex gradually. The Thakher area is the initial foundation, while we are also participating in the RCMC auction process for other areas closer to the center of Hajj and Umrah activities,” he said.
