Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has integrated seafood export certification services in Batam's free trade zone, reducing processing time to as little as 10-15 minutes to accelerate exports, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries said on Monday.The integration was formalized through a cooperation agreement signed on July 23 between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Batam Free Trade Zone Authority (BP Batam), linking the ministry's online certification platform with BP Batam's IBOSS licensing system.Head of the Marine and Fisheries Product Quality Control and Inspection Agency at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ishartini said the agreement would simplify export procedures while improving services for businesses operating in Batam.”With this cooperation agreement, existing regulations can be implemented by all parties to support greater ease of doing business in Batam,” Ishartini said.She said the integrated system clarifies the division of authority between the ministry, as the competent authority for seafood quality certification, and BP Batam, as the administrator of the Batam Free Trade and Free Port Zone under Government Regulation No. 25 of 2025.The integration is expected to eliminate duplicate certification procedures, reduce bureaucracy, and facilitate seafood exports from Batam.Under the new system, the ministry can issue a Marine and Fisheries Product Quality and Safety Certificate (SMKHP) within approximately 10-15 minutes after BP Batam issues the required online quality assurance document. Ishartini said the cooperation would improve services for exporters while strengthening the competitiveness of Batam's seafood exports.​​​​​​​Batam's seafood exports have grown steadily. Export value rose to Rp226.7 billion in 2025 from Rp203.4 billion in 2024, while export volume increased to 8,858 tons from 8,790 tons.As of June 2026, seafood exports from Batam were valued at Rp48.7 billion, with shipments totaling 1,786 tons.All seafood exports from Batam have been accompanied by SMKHP certificates issued by the ministry. It issued 1,930 certificates in 2025 and another 713 through June 2026.”With this cooperation, I am optimistic that Batam's seafood exports will make a significant contribution to both the national economy and Batam's economy, while encouraging fisheries businesses to further expand their operations,” Ishartini said.
