Jakarta to install free drinking water stations along Sudirman-Thamrin

People can just bring their own bottles or tumblers,Jakatya (ANTARA) – The Regional Public Company Air Minum (PAM) Jaya plans to provide drinking water facilities along Sudirman-Thamrin Street in Jakarta.“We’ll set up a dispenser counter. People can just bring their own bottles or tumblers,” said Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, Chairman of the PAM Jaya Supervisory Board in Jakarta on Monday.Prasetyo stated that the program is still in the planning stages and will be implemented once PAM Jaya's piped water service reaches 100 percent coverage.”Once 100 percent (piped water service) is connected, we'll make a breakthrough by creating a single-package water product that doesn't use plastic. It will be available in all corners of Jakarta,” he said.PAM Jaya has also introduced an innovative water purifier, considered a strategic solution for providing safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly drinking water while reducing plastic waste.Data from the Regionally-Owned Enterprises Development Agency (BP BUMD) in April shows that the installation of water purifiers in public facilities has reached 601 units, an increase of 80 units between January and March 2026. One of the locations equipped with this facility is Jakarta City Hall.Meanwhile, as of March 2026, PAM Jaya's piped water service coverage stood at 81.45 percent—around 18 percent short of its 100 percent target by 2029. This figure represents a significant increase of 13.82 percentage points compared to 71.59 percent in the first quarter of 2025.The number of connections also rose to 1,223,759 in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 241,537 compared to 982,222 connections in the same period of 2025.Meanwhile, the total length of PAM Jaya’s water pipeline network reached 12,839 km as of the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 4,096 km compared to the end of December 2025.
