local games have great potential to grow and become a new economic forceJakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said the government has been preparing policies to support national game industry and enhance the competitiveness of local game products in the global market.”We continue to hold discussions on incentives, studies, and regulations to strengthen the game subsector,” he said, as quoted in the ministry press release here on Monday. He expected that the policies will address the industry needs while encouraging creative players to not only survive, but also to grow and become more prosperous. The game industry in Indonesia continues to grow, he pointed out, with more than 40 local games released over the past year.During his visit to Gambir Studio in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Saturday (April 25), Harsya highlighted the significant potential for the local game industry to expand even more. It is reflected by the increasing number of users of local game KuloNiku, developed by Gambir Studio.”In less than two weeks since its launch, this game has reached nearly 60,000 users. It shows that local games have great potential to grow and become a new economic force,” Harsya said.Gambir Studio, established in 2016, has released more than 12 game titles, recording over 20 million total downloads. One of the games developed by the studio is KuloNiku: Bowl Up! which was inspired by Indonesian culinary culture.”We don’t just make games, we also carry a cultural mission. There is a collaboration between culinary, animation, and games. It proves that the creative economy cannot stand alone, it must grow through collaboration,” said Gambir Studio CEO, Shafiq Husein.Husein added that KuloNiku development was supported by Gamescom 2025, as well as government efforts to provide access and encourage collaboration with game publishers.
