Jakarta (ANTARA) – Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that Perry Warjiyo resigned as governor on Sunday, July 26, citing personal reasons.BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti made the announcement during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday in her capacity as acting governor of the central bank.She referred to Law No. 23 of 1999 on Bank Indonesia and Law No. 4 of 2026 on Financial Sector Strengthening, which stipulate that a member of the BI Board of Governors cannot be dismissed from office but may resign voluntarily.According to Damayanti, the Board of Governors convened a meeting on Sunday and appointed her to lead the central bank until a new governor is officially appointed. She said the appointment was made in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.Damayanti assured the public that the leadership transition would not disrupt the central bank's operations, emphasizing that the five members of the Board of Governors would continue to perform their duties collectively.”The five of us will continue to carry out the duties and mandate entrusted to Bank Indonesia collectively,” she said.She also reaffirmed BI's commitment to strengthening the rupiah while maintaining financial system stability to support sustainable economic growth and job creation.Earlier, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto had approved Warjiyo's resignation and said the government would issue a presidential decree to formalize the decision.”A presidential decree will be issued to honorably discharge Mr. Warjiyo from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia,” Hadi said.He added that Warjiyo stepped down for personal reasons and that the government respected his decision.Hadi also noted that President Prabowo has not yet nominated a candidate for the governorship, adding that Damayanti will serve as acting governor until a new governor is appointed.
