We are simply following the applicable rules,” Damayanti said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday.Under Indonesia's central bank law, the mechanism for appointing a new governor is stipulated in the Bank Indonesia Law. If a governor voluntarily resigns, the process of selecting a replacement begins in accordance with the applicable provisions.She said the process starts with the nomination of eligible members of the Board of Governors. The candidates will then be selected and appointed by the president with the approval of the House of Representatives (DPR).”Everything is already stipulated in the Bank Indonesia Law. We will follow the provisions accordingly,” she said.Damayanti, who is the central bank's Senior Deputy Governor, was appointed acting governor following Warjiyo's resignation, in line with the provisions of the law.Under the law, the Senior Deputy Governor assumes the governor's duties when the governor is permanently unable to serve, including in the event of resignation, until a permanent governor is appointed.”If the governor is permanently unable to serve, including due to resignation, the Senior Deputy Governor will assume the role of acting governor until the president initiates the process of appointing a permanent governor,” Damayanti explained.Asked whether she would consider running for the permanent position, Damayanti declined to speculate, saying her focus was on carrying out her duties as acting governor in accordance with the law.
