Jakarta (ANTARA) – The governments of Indonesia and Thailand agreed to strengthen cooperation in the digital economy sector, including expanding the use of local currency transactions (LCT) in trade and investment.President Prabowo Subianto, in a joint statement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday, said the two countries are strengthening their strategic partnership in the economic, political, and security fields.”Amid global economic transformation, Indonesia and Thailand are also committed to strengthening cooperation in the digital economy sector, including the use of local currency transactions to improve efficiency in trade and investment,” Prabowo said.Prabowo explained that the use of LCT would improve trade and investment efficiency, as businesses and individuals could conduct transactions using their respective currencies without converting them into foreign currencies, such as the US dollar.The expansion of LCT is part of the two countries' efforts to increase investment, expand market access, and strengthen partnerships among business actors, he pointed out.Indonesia and Thailand also aim to achieve a bilateral trade value of US$20 billion by 2030 through the implementation of the two countries' Strategic Partnership Roadmap.On the same occasion, Thai PM Anutin Charnvirakul said Indonesia and Thailand, as two key pillars of ASEAN, need to strengthen bilateral cooperation not only in the economic sector but also in politics and security to promote peace, stability, and regional progress.According to Charnvirakul, the two countries have maintained longstanding relations and are ready to enhance a mutually beneficial partnership.Anutin remarked that as two countries that were key pillars of ASEAN, they had to work more closely together to expand bilateral cooperation and advance their region.
