Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Industry expressed optimism for continued growth of the national sportswear market, driven by a shift toward healthier and more active lifestyles.Speaking at the opening of Indonesia Sport and Active Wear (ISAW) & Cosmetic Day 2026 in Jakarta on Monday, Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza noted that the sport and activewear sector shows promising prospects, fueled by rising consumer demand for high-quality, innovative products.Faisol cited Euromonitor International’s Sportswear in Indonesia report published in February 2026, which valued the domestic sportswear market at approximately Rp38.5 trillion (US$2.14 billion) in 2025—up about 8 percent from the previous year.Looking ahead, the market is projected to reach around Rp58.6 trillion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 9 percent over the 2025–2030 period. In this regard, the deputy minister underscored the importance of local industry players, especially small and medium industries, to leverage this potential to boost their production capacity and strengthen the position of local products. He added that the success of local brands in integrating into the national sports ecosystem highlights the capacity of domestic businesses to compete.Beyond domestic market potential, Faisol said the competitiveness of the national sportswear industry is also underpinned by a steady upward trend in export performance.Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data shows that textile apparel exports grew 2.7 percent, rising from US$7.08 billion in 2024 to US$7.27 billion in 2025.Meanwhile, the sports equipment industry recorded a 12 percent surge in exports, growing from US$274.4 million to US$306.3 million.”This positive trend reflects the growing competitiveness of the national apparel industry, including sportswear products, in the global market,” the deputy minister said.He added that the apparel, footwear, and sports equipment industries play a strategic role in Indonesia's economy as labor-intensive industries capable of creating a large number of jobs, boosting added value, and empowering communities. The ministry recorded that in 2024, the apparel subsector accounted for around 594,000 small-scale industrial enterprises employing 1.2 million workers.Meanwhile, the leather, leather goods, and footwear subsector comprised 53,000 small-scale units, creating jobs for 205,000 people. In the sports equipment subsector, data from the National Industrial Information System (SIINas) and BPS showed 128 business entities employing 15,663 people in 2024.To boost the competitiveness of small and medium industrial enterprises, the ministry continues to roll out various initiatives, ranging from upskilling human resources and modernizing production equipment to strengthening standardization, certification, and expanding market access and partnerships.
