Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto said on Friday that PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI) had identified potential additional state revenue of US$5 billion through monitoring exports of strategic commodities over a period of just more than two months.Speaking at a joint parliamentary session ahead of Indonesia’s Independence Day, Prabowo said DSI had monitored more than 6,000 export transactions involving three strategic commodities: coal, palm oil and ferroalloys.“DSI has identified potential additional revenue of US$5 billion simply from price differences and adjustments,” Prabowo said.“Regarding export proceeds, imagine if in the future all of our export commodities are monitored and managed by PT DSI. How much more revenue could flow into the state?” he added.Prabowo said PT DSI would expand its monitoring coverage to 50 ports across 25 provinces. Its oversight would also be extended beyond the three strategic commodities to other key Indonesian commodities.“We no longer want the Indonesian people to be cheated. Indonesia’s wealth must not enrich only a handful of people while leaving our people struggling. This is not only unjust; it is not the conduct of a smart state. Our goods, our assets, yet others determine the price,” Prabowo said.According to Prabowo, fraudulent practices that had previously occurred in the export transactions of strategic commodities violated basic economic and market principles.Prabowo cited what he described as under-invoicing in palm oil exports as an example of losses suffered by the state.He said Indonesian crude palm oil had previously been sold at around Rp15,000 per kilogram at domestic ports, compared with around Rp27,000 per kilogram on the Rotterdam market.“Yet there is not even a single hectare of palm oil plantation in the Netherlands. This means that, in reality, we were losing almost 50 percent of the value of our commodities,” he said.On Friday, the MPR, DPR, and DPD held the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD.The agenda included President Prabowo Subianto’s address on the performance of state institutions, as well as his State of the Nation Address commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence.The annual session is a state ceremony held ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day under the theme “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.”
