Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Thomas A.M. Djiwandono urged Indonesian young generation to preserve the nation's identity and cultural wealth in developing micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) products. This came even as young entrepreneurs continue to innovate and keep pace with technological developments.”Keep preserving our identity. Innovation does not mean abandoning our roots. In fact, Indonesia's cultural wealth is our strength and what set us apart amid global competition,” Djiwandono said at the Indonesian Creative Works (KKI) 2026 event here on Saturday. The culture-based products, such as traditional textiles and handicrafts, he added, derive their strength from its authenticity.Young people need to see MSMEs and the creative economy as sectors with great potential to create business opportunities while increasing the added value of the national economy, he explained.Djiwandono also urged young people on the importance of innovation by utilising technology and creativity to make Indonesian products more relevant and competitive. The regeneration process is important to ensure MSME sustainability. Because of this, he said, senior business players are also encouraged to open wider space for young people to get involved and bring new perspectives to business development.”In the end, the sustainability of Indonesia's MSMEs is determined by our ability to preserve our work through regeneration, strengthen it through innovation, and grow it through entrepreneurship,” he said. Moreover, young people do not merely act as successors to businesses built by previous generations, but also as innovators who can help Indonesian products go further. Therefore, inter-agency collaboration is needed to expand support for MSME players, ranging from capacity building, innovation, and digitalization to market access and financing, Djiwandono noted.
