Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto urged Indonesian MSMEs to boost production and market retention, while proposing to raise national small-business financing to Rp2,000 trillion (US$112.36 billion).Speaking at the 2026 MSME Finance Summit in Jakarta on Tuesday, Airlangga emphasized the need to raise the funding target from its current level of approximately Rp1,500 trillion (US$84.27 billion) to bridge the financing gap for growing enterprises.”India is one of the countries that has successfully encouraged MSMEs, not only in terms of production, but also in terms of how they can maintain their markets,” Airlangga said, citing the growth model of Indian MSMEs as an operational benchmark for Indonesian businesses to strengthen market stability. He noted that Indian MSMEs effectively scale alongside large corporations, forming a core pillar of the national economy. The proposed expansion in credit distribution aims to improve capital access for mid-tier businesses that have yet to secure adequate institutional funding, filling the capital gap needed for enterprises to upgrade operations.Alongside credit expansion, the government is accelerating digitalization across small businesses. With Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) adoption reaching 66 million users across 44 million merchant outlets, Airlangga noted that digital transaction records are increasingly used for alternative credit scoring, enabling previously “unbankable” small businesses to secure bank financing. He added that implementing advanced technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), will help MSMEs increase overall productivity and open new revenue streams. To address labor capacity, Airlangga urged eligible small businesses to utilize the National Internship Program—a state-backed initiative where the government covers intern wages for six months to help vetted MSMEs scale their workforce efficiently.
