Gorontalo (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) safely evacuated 12 people, including 11 foreign nationals, after their speedboat capsized in the Gulf of Tomini, with the search ongoing for the missing captain.Herinyanto, head of the Gorontalo SAR Office, said on Saturday that a joint team rescued the victims after finding them adrift on a raft.“We have received a report from Tojo UnaUna District confirming that 11 foreign passengers and one crew member were found safe. They have been evacuated to a resort in Tojo UnaUna,” he remarked in Gorontalo.He pointed out that official information indicates the speedboat departed from Tojo UnaUna, Central Sulawesi, early Friday (July 24), sailing toward Marisa in Pohuwato District, Gorontalo Province.Cruising through the Gulf of Tomini, he continued, the vessel was struck by waves during bad weather and split into two before sinking.He added that the accident is estimated to have occurred around 9 p.m. local time, forcing those on board to cling to a raft in search of safety.The SAR chief confirmed that the boat’s captain, identified as Ardiansyah, remains missing.He further explained that the captain is believed to have stayed aboard the vessel and was no longer visible to the other victims due to foggy conditions.On that note, he pledged maximum efforts to locate and evacuate the skipper under his command.“In accordance with applicable standard operating procedures, the joint SAR team will continue conducting an intensive search for the missing captain over the next seven days,” Hariyanto stressed.Earlier, Rumadi, a SAR officer from Palu, Central Sulawesi, reported that his team had deployed the SAR vessel Bhisma to support the search, bringing 13 personnel and the necessary tools and equipment.
