BI Papua accelerates transaction digitalization through National QRIS

Jayapura (ANTARA) – Bank Indonesia’s Papua office is accelerating regional digitalization by launching National QRIS Week (PQN) across Papua as an effort to increase use of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) in both informal and formal sectors. The campaign, held from August 11–17, included promotions, public discussions, and outreach programs spanning Jayapura and Merauke. The initiative received strong support from small businesses, local governments, and residents, according to BI Papua Head Faturachman.”This is a new program, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. QRIS makes transactions simpler and more inclusive,” he said.During the PQN, BI held such activities as QRIS promotions with local coffee MSMEs and discussions on digital payment adoption in microbusinesses and public sectors. Other events highlighted the role of content creators in financial literacy and explored QRIS usability from psychological and economic perspectives. In Merauke, PQN featured a high-level meeting of the Regional Digitalization Acceleration Team (TP2DD), a night market, a community run, and education on the “Love, Proud, Understand Rupiah” (CBP) currency campaign.BI is also tracking the progress of local government digital payment indexes (ETPD). While Merauke has reached the “digital” stage, South Papua Province is still in the “advanced” stage, he said.To address this, BI has met with the South Papua governor, regional parliament (MRP), and local agencies to coordinate strategies to accelerate regional digital transformation, he said.Related news: BI extends QRIS’ reach to Japan to facilitate seamless transaction
