Palu (ANTARA) – Two flagship products from Central Sulawesi, Donggala Weaving and Palu Fried Shallots, are being showcased at Japan’s Osaka Expo 2025 until October 13. Their participation in the international exhibition is facilitated by the Creative Economy Movement (Gekraf) in collaboration with Indonesia’s National Handicraft Council (Dekranas RI).Head of the Central Sulawesi Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Rakhmat Renaldy said in Palu on Tuesday that the two products are clear examples of how local goods can gain global recognition when protected under Indonesia’s geographical indication (GI) framework.“Donggala Weaving and Palu Fried Shallots are not merely trade commodities but have been recognized as geographical indication products. This status highlights their uniqueness, quality, and deep connection to their place of origin,” he said.He added that the geographical indication protection not only safeguards the name and reputation of the products but also provides sustainable economic benefits for communities.Such legal protection helps improve competitiveness, expand export opportunities, strengthen marketing networks, and preserve cultural identity and local wisdom.“With GI status, these products cannot be easily imitated. This ensures direct benefits for the people of Central Sulawesi in economic, social, and cultural terms. Local products can become a source of regional pride while also strengthening Indonesia’s image globally,” Renaldy said.He emphasized that showcasing these products at Osaka Expo 2025 is an important opportunity to introduce Indonesia’s creative economy potential to the world. It also serves as a valuable lesson for local governments and small businesses on the importance of integrating intellectual property protection into product development strategies. The Central Sulawesi office of the ministry remains committed to supporting local governments, small businesses, and creative communities in registering, protecting, and leveraging intellectual property as a tool for economic growth.Renaldy expressed hope that Central Sulawesi’s participation in the Osaka Expo, scheduled from April 13 to October 13, 2025, will open wider international market access for Donggala Weaving and Palu Fried Shallots.
