Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is investigating a suspected international drug trafficking network following the arrest of Russian nationals in Bangli, Bali, during which officers confiscated around 7.8 kilograms of narcotics. The Head of the BNN's Public Relations and Protocol Bureau, Brigadier General Putu Putera Sadana, said on Sunday, June 7, that the case was uncovered through collaboration between the BNN, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Indonesian National Police, and the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs.According to him, the arrests of the two foreign nationals mark only the initial stage of efforts to dismantle a broader syndicate.Investigators are currently examining the possible involvement of other perpetrators, including drug trafficking networks operating in Bali and abroad.”This case is still under investigation. If other suspects or additional evidence are found, we will report further developments,” Sadana said. The BNN has yet to detail each suspect’s role or explain the structure of the network involving the Russian nationals. However, authorities are tracing distribution lines, the origin of the drugs, and other individuals linked to the operation.Responding to questions about the possible presence of other networks operating in Bali, Sadana said his team is collecting evidence and statements to ensure all findings are backed by sufficient proof and comply with legal regulations.Previously, authorities dismantled an international narcotics smuggling network involving Russian nationals in Kayang Hamlet, Bangli District, Bali, on Friday, June 5. In the operation, officers arrested two Russian nationals identified as KK (52) and SK (40).The operation began following information from Soekarno-Hatta Customs and Excise regarding a suitcase from Thailand containing narcotics, carried by KK, who was bound for Bali.Upon landing at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, KK continued the journey by rental car to Ketapang Port, crossing the strait at around 1:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).After reaching Gilimanuk Port at around 3:00 a.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA), KK was picked up by SK. Following a chase from Gilimanuk to Bangli, BNN officers arrested both suspects. Officers confiscated evidence in the form of 7.8 kilograms of hashish.Hashish is a concentrated cannabis product made from the collected and compressed resin of the cannabis plant. This substance is typically brown, with a solid shape resembling a ball, stick, or block, containing significantly higher levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) than regular cannabis.
