E Kalimantan enhances deep learning to create world-class graduates

Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) – The Education and Culture Office of East Kalimantan Province is enhancing the implementation of a deep learning approach at schools to improve students’ understanding comprehensively in a bid to create world-class graduates.”With this learning approach, children are directed to have a deep understanding of something,” Head of the Education and Culture Office of East Kalimantan Province, Armin, said in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Sunday.According to him, the success of this approach, regardless of the school curriculum implemented, highly depends on the teachers’ creativity and innovation in designing varied learning scenarios.”To this end, we are changing the focus from conventional training to direct guidance to schools to monitor and discuss with the teachers, especially those with less than five years of experience,” he remarked. This effort is strengthened by the main programs, such as expanding bilingual classes, from being implemented in two schools to 70 schools at senior high schools and vocational high schools across East Kalimantan this year.Apart from that, the Education and Culture Office of East Kalimantan and the central government have launched the “Garuda Class” at Samarinda 10 State Senior High School, which is one of the 12 pilot schools in Indonesia. The program aims to prepare students to pursue higher education in top global universities. The government has also forged international collaboration, one of which is bringing in lecturers from South Australia’s Adelaide University to provide training to teachers in East Kalimantan.According to Armin, the main key to creating human resources who can compete at the global level lies in the strengthening of teachers’ competency and school management. With strong human resources, he expressed optimism that graduates from East Kalimantan can pursue education at world’s top universities.
