Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia Eximbank (LPEI) has provided US$8.5 million in financing to support a state-owned train manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) in exporting freight wagons to New Zealand.First Managing Director of Business at Indonesia Eximbank, Anton Herdianto, said the financing was extended through the National Interest Account (NIA), a government-backed export financing facility.”Through the National Interest Account facility, Indonesia Eximbank carries out the state's mandate to ensure that Indonesia's leading manufactured products, such as those produced by PT INKA, continue expanding their reach into global markets,” Anton said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.PT INKA secured a contract to manufacture 340 Container Flat Top Wagons for UGL Rail Service Pty Limited of Australia, with the wagons to be operated by KiwiRail as the end user in New Zealand. The wagons will be delivered in three phases throughout 2026 under the contract, with the financing supporting the implementation of the project. The facility marks the second financing support provided by Indonesia Eximbank to PT INKA.In 2024, the agency extended US$11.9 million in financing and guarantees to INKA Multi Solusi (IMS), comprising US$7.7 million in financing and US$4.2 million in guarantees, to support rail wagon exports to New Zealand.”Exports of these wagons to New Zealand demonstrate that Indonesia's manufacturing products are capable of meeting stringent international standards,” Anton said. The successful export of SOW6 freight wagons is expected to generate broader economic benefits by increasing the utilisation of domestically produced components, creating jobs, and strengthening Indonesia's manufacturing supply chain.”LPEI will continue supporting Indonesian exporters through financing, guarantees, and insurance to promote export growth and sustainable national economic development,” Anton said.
