OJK forms task force to prepare mineral exchange oversight

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) has established a task force to prepare the regulatory and supervisory framework for the country's future mineral and strategic commodities exchange, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.The OJK Board of Commissioners' Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi said in Jakarta on Tuesday the task force would also prepare the supporting infrastructure, including the organisational structure and human resources needed to oversee the new market.Preparations also include drafting regulations, allocating budgets, designing business processes, developing information technology systems, and establishing other operational support.”At present, OJK, together with several other parties, is still in the process of drafting and refining the regulatory framework and institutional arrangements required for the implementation of the exchange,” Friderica said during a press conference on the results of the OJK Board of Commissioners' Monthly Meeting. The task force was established to implement the Law Number 4 of 2026, which amends the Law Number 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.Under the amended law, OJK has been assigned additional authority to regulate and supervise the mineral and strategic commodities exchange. The law stipulates the exchange will be established and begin operations on January 1, 2027, when OJK will also officially assume responsibility for regulating and supervising transactions conducted on the exchange.A new member of the OJK Board of Commissioners will also be appointed to oversee the mineral and strategic commodities exchange.Friderica said the House of Representatives would select the new board member from candidates nominated by the President of Indonesia.Under the law, the mineral and strategic commodities exchange will operate as an organised and integrated marketplace for trading minerals, strategic commodities, and their derivative products. The market will be supported by a financing ecosystem, digital financial instruments, and mechanisms covering pricing, quality standards, transaction settlement, and risk management under OJK's regulatory and supervisory authority. The government expects the exchange to strengthen Indonesia's economic resilience, safeguard market integrity, and maximise the added value of the country's natural resources and strategic commodities.
