..if economic growth was previously around 5 percent, we expect it to grow even faster in the future,Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is heading towards 8 percent economic growth within the next two or three years, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa claimed.“Some people might say 8 percent growth is too high (expectation), but for me, it is getting there,” the minister said at the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Jakarta on Monday. He believes the Indonesian economy can grow by 6 percent simply by revitalizing the private and government sectors without major industrial reforms.According to him, this condition provides the initial capital for the economy to accelerate growth to 8 percent in the near future.“In two or three years, you will see the 8 percent figure gradually increasing,” he added.Meanwhile, for the first half of 2026, Purbaya is optimistic that the national economy can grow above 5.5 percent. He explained that the government is currently focused on building a solid economic foundation to support sustained and accelerating growth. One of the key efforts is the establishment of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Government Programs to Support Economic Growth, led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. At the same time, the Finance Ministry is working to improve its performance to ensure that fiscal policy contributes more effectively to economic growth. These organizational reforms are primarily focused on the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).Purbaya said these reforms have already had a positive impact on tax collection performance, as reflected in a 20.7 percent increase in tax revenue in March 2026.He also noted that the domestic economy has remained stable despite global economic uncertainty.“So, if economic growth was previously around 5 percent, we expect it to grow even faster in the future,” Purbaya concluded.
