Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that government programs, such as transport discounts, remote work arrangements, and social assistance, are expected to stimulate national economic activity during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.Speaking at an Eid al-Fitr open house event at his residence in Jakarta on Saturday, he expressed hope that those programs would boost people's mobility and consumption, thereby impacting economic growth.”We hope that with this momentum, we can achieve 5.5 percent economic growth in the first quarter,” he said. For this year's Eid al-Fitr, the Indonesian government rolled out several incentives to encourage public mobility, including discounts on transportation and toll road fees. The program includes travel cost relief across various modes of transport—such as air, rail, sea, and land—to make it easier for people to travel for the annual homecoming. The government is offering discounts of up to 30 percent for train and sea transport tickets, waiving ferry service fees, and offering airfare discounts ranging from 17 to 18 percent. The total budget required for these incentives is estimated at over Rp900 billion (approximately US$53 million), sourced from both the state budget and non-budgetary support. In addition, the government is also providing food assistance to millions of beneficiaries as part of efforts to maintain people's purchasing power during the holiday season. The assistance package includes staple goods such as rice and cooking oil, distributed for two months to more than 35 million beneficiaries. On the same occasion, Minister Hartarto also extended his Eid al-Fitr greetings to the public while warning of the need to stay alert to potential global volatility, particularly in oil prices. The Ministry of Transportation previously announced that 143.9 million people are projected to travel during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr season, a massive movement of people is expected to trigger a ripple effect, boosting economic activity across the country.
