Eid momentum drives Indonesia’s halal assurance push: BPJPH

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s halal authority has urged consumers and businesses to strengthen compliance during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday, citing surging demand for certified products and the need to boost global competitiveness.Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan said in a statement on Sunday that the holiday period presents a critical opportunity to reinforce the national halal assurance system as consumption rises sharply. He noted that demand for a wide range of goods—from food and beverages to fashion and cosmetics—typically increases ahead of Eid, making stricter adherence to halal standards increasingly important.Hasan called on Muslim consumers to be more selective, ensuring that products they purchase and consume meet verified halal requirements.“By choosing halal products, we support stronger certification practices while enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian halal goods globally,” he said.He stressed that halal certification offers benefits beyond religious compliance, including guarantees of safety, hygiene, and product quality, which help build consumer confidence.“Consumers should ensure products are halal-certified so they can use them with confidence, knowing they meet proper standards,” he added.Hasan also highlighted the broader economic impact, saying stronger domestic demand for halal-certified goods could support national economic growth and improve Indonesia’s position in the global halal market.“Public support is essential to strengthen the halal ecosystem and make Indonesian products more competitive internationally,” he said.He added that raising awareness of halal assurance could deliver wider benefits for both businesses and consumers by encouraging higher standards and accountability across supply chains. The BPJPH chief emphasized that collaboration between the government, industry players, and the public would be key to maintaining trust in halal certification and ensuring consistent implementation nationwide. He also called for continued education campaigns to help consumers better understand the importance of halal compliance, particularly during peak consumption periods such as Eid.With demand expected to remain strong, authorities aim to ensure that halal-certified products remain accessible, reliable, and aligned with regulatory standards across Indonesia.
