Jakarta (ANTARA) – Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that strengthening Indonesia's Islamic economy requires a fully integrated ecosystem that is rooted in sharia compliance and designed to maintain public trust in the Islamic financial industry.“If this ecosystem is managed transparently, the benefits to the public will be immense,” the minister said after attending the “Shariah-Intelligence: Navigating the Future of Islamic Finance through AI and Digital Innovation” event in Jakarta on Wednesday.He noted that while the economic potential of the Muslim community is vast, it has not yet been fully connected into a mutually reinforcing ecosystem.Therefore, collaboration among organizations, business players, and sharia-based startups is key to maximizing the broader economic impact of the Islamic finance sector.”We are building an Islamic economic ecosystem, which includes the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists, the Islamic Economic Society, and various other stakeholders,” he remarked.The minister underscored that the Muslim community's economic potential must be synergized and effectively harnessed to improve public welfare.Furthermore, he highlighted the need for a paradigm shift in Islamic economic development, noting that success is no longer measured solely by the size of profits or accumulated assets, but also by the tangible benefits delivered to society and the environment.For this reason, the Islamic economy must embrace the Quadruple Bottom Line concept—striking a balance between profit, people, planet, and the spiritual or prophetic dimension.Responding to the rise of investment schemes that use Islamic labels yet spark public skepticism, Minister Nasaruddin urged industry players to continuously bolster their adherence to sharia principles.He said that strengthening sharia compliance requires collaborative efforts, involving various relevant organizations and agencies, including the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), Nahdlatul Ulama, and Muhammadiyah.The minister also called on all religious communities to maximize their respective faith-based charitable instruments to help empower local communities economically.
