Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono ensured that national fertilizer supplies remain secure despite global supply chain disruptions caused by tensions in the Middle East. With total fertilizer production reaching around 14.5 million tons, the government is optimistic that national needs can be met while maintaining stability.”Our production is sufficient as the total national need for urea fertilizer is around 6.8 million tons,” Sudaryono stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.Despite disruptions concerning the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, he highlighted the stability provided by domestic natural gas based urea production. This domestic capacity is sufficient to meet local farmers' needs without significant dependence on imports of key raw materials. For other components such as phosphate and potassium, the government is diversifying imports from various countries to maintain the continuity of domestic supply.Sudaryono noted that the high uptake of fertilizer by farmers is a positive sign of increased planting activity across the country.”This is a positive signal. Why? It means our farmers are buying fertilizer, which means they are planting more,” he added.Despite noticing short delays in distribution due to high demand, the deputy minister emphasized that fertilizer availability remains guaranteed. The government continues to monitor fertilizer needs based on national planting data which is routinely recorded by agricultural extension workers. This step was taken to ensure an optimal balance between fertilizer production, distribution, and demand at the farmer level.
