Indonesia speeds up efforts to contain Bromo wildfires

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno affirmed that the government continues to accelerate efforts to contain wildfires in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), East Java.Pratikno, who directly inspected the site and led a coordination meeting on the wildfire response on Tuesday, stated that joint firefighting efforts have yielded significant results. The number of active hotspots has dropped sharply from 34 to just two, which remain the primary focus of containment efforts.”Two hotspots still need to be extinguished immediately. That is down from 34 previously, leaving just two remaining,” Pratikno said in a statement. The minister's visit directly follows instructions from President Prabowo Subianto to ensure fires in Bromo and other regions are handled swiftly, allowing ecosystems and local community activities to recover.”President Prabowo Subianto is paying very close attention to the fires in Bromo and other regions. That is why we must all work hard to extinguish them as quickly as possible,” he said.Pratikno explained that the government is not only focusing on ground-level firefighting, but is also preparing follow-up strategies, including weather modification in collaboration with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).He noted that to support cloud seeding, the BNPB and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) continue monitoring cloud potential over the coming days.Pratikno also underscored the vital role of active participation and preparedness among regional leaders, given that both rainfall-driven and drought-driven hydrometeorological disasters are occurring simultaneously.”Therefore, I expect all regional leaders, local authorities, as well as military and police personnel to act swiftly in extinguishing potential fires while preventing disasters from the outset,” he remarked.
