Indonesia targets 80,000 village cooperatives by March 2026

Bandarlampung (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government aims to complete 80,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) with full operational facilities by March 2026, Minister of Cooperatives and Small-Medium Enterprises Ferry Juliantono said on Wednesday.“By March 2026, 80,000 units of Red and White Village Cooperatives will be completed — including physical buildings, warehouses, outlets, and supporting facilities — all ready for operation,” Juliantono said in Bandarlampung, Lampung Province. He said the initiative will generate 80,000 new business activities across villages and sub-districts, boosting local economies through cooperatives.“Imagine 80,000 grocery outlets managed like modern retail, 80,000 professionally run warehouses, 80,000 logistics transport facilities, and 80,000 village pharmacies and clinics — all driving rural economic growth,” he said.Juliantono said President Prabowo Subianto wants villagers to become active economic participants rather than just beneficiaries, by owning and managing cooperative-based enterprises under the Red and White Village and Sub-District Cooperatives scheme.“Villagers should not remain merely bank customers. The President wants banks — including the Association of State-Owned Banks and regional lenders — to provide capital access and channel funds back to rural communities through these cooperatives,” he said.He expressed hope that the program would stimulate money circulation in rural areas and contribute to the national goal of achieving 8% economic growth.“The President has mandated that cooperatives catch up with state-owned and private enterprises in terms of assets, business volume, and public participation. Through the Red and White Village Cooperatives, Indonesia aims to rebuild an economic system that benefits the wider society,” Juliantono said.
