Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, said Meta and Google must complete required documents following summons over alleged violations of the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP Tunas).Hafid said the ministry had questioned the two companies earlier this week over suspected breaches of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025, which governs electronic system operators in protecting children.“This has entered the three-day period for completing the required documents,” she told reporters at the presidential palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.“They need to complete the documentation based on the results of yesterday’s examination,” she added.Hafid stated that her office is still awaiting positive developments regarding the compliance of the two major platforms with the provisions outlined in PP Tunas.The companies were asked 29 questions during separate examinations held on Monday and Tuesday, according to Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Oversight at the Ministry.During the examination process, the two companies were asked 29 questions to further investigate the alleged violations of regulations in force in Indonesia.Earlier, Meutya Hafid said the summons issued to Meta and Google was a result of their failure to comply with the PP Tunas regulation and its implementing rules.She noted that both companies violated provisions under Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, which serves as the implementing regulation of PP Tunas.Meta is the parent company of digital platforms including Threads, Facebook, and Instagram, while Google is the parent company of YouTube.Under Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, both platforms are classified as high-risk services and are required to restrict children’s access to their services.
