Indonesia continues D-8 chairmanship agenda despite postponed summit

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia will continue its D-8 chairmanship agenda despite the postponement of the group’s summit scheduled for this month, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said.Indonesia continues to monitor global developments to arrange the schedule for the D-8 agenda, Nabyl said.”As chair, we will continue to implement the five priorities that Indonesia has outlined,” he said during a media briefing here on Wednesday. He explained that all agendas under Indonesia's chairmanship have not been canceled, but rather postponed until a more appropriate time.”Our priorities will continue. There is no cancellation, but we are looking for a more appropriate time. This plan has also been coordinated with the D-8 Secretariat General and fellow member countries,” he said. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which is of concern to D-8 countries, is the main reason for adjusting the implementation of the agenda.Established in 1997, D-8 is a development cooperation group of emerging economies comprising Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.Azerbaijan became the group's ninth member in 2025.This April, Indonesia was supposed to hold the D-8 Summit, preceded by a meeting of high-ranking officials and foreign ministers.Under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity”, Indonesia focuses on five priority agendas, including strengthening trade, developing the halal economy, the green and blue economy, connectivity and the digital economy as well as organizational reform.
