Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated the increase of foreign tourist arrivals through April 2026 indicates that of Indonesia's tourism sector is in on a positive growth trajectory.”Indonesian tourism is currently on a positive growth path, driven by an increase in foreign tourist visits and an increase in average tourist spending per visit. It shows that efforts to improve the quality of tourist destinations are beginning to deliver the results,” Putri Wardhana remarked in the Ministry of Tourism's Monthly Performance Report, confirmed on Saturday.According to Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) data, the number of foreign tourist visits in April 2026 reached 1.25 million, similar to 7.22 percent increase from 1.16 million visits at the same month in the previous year.From January to April 2026, the number of foreign tourist visits reached 4.68 million, similar to 8.24 percent increase from 4.33 million visits at the same period in the previous year.The largest number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in April 2026 mostly came from Malaysia (207,957 visits), then followed by Australia (157,960 visits), China (133,986 visits), Singapore (111,439 visits), and Timor-Leste (75,477 visits).The increase of the international visits contributed to the country's foreign exchange earnings.Central bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) recorded foreign exchange earnings from tourism in the first quarter of 2026 reached US$4.05 billion, or approximately Rp68.28 trillion, a 6.30 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025 which was recorded at US$3.81 billion, or around Rp62.29 trillion.Domestic tourist movements also showed a positive trend. As of April 2026, the number of domestic tourist trips reached 417.06 million, representing a 1.48 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.Previously, at the National Tourism Coordination Meeting on May 20–21, 2026, the ministry discussed policy alignment to achieve the 2029 national tourism development target.Currently, the government is promoting sustainable tourism practices that prioritise environmental preservation and the management of destination carrying capacity.The Ministry of Tourism is also strengthening the ecosystem of muslim-friendly tourism in collaboration with the Halal Product Guarantee Agency, which includes halal product certification programme for businesses in 1,116 tourist villages across 34 provinces.Furthermore, the ministry is encouraging the development of tourist villages and micro, small, and medium enterprises.Through Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2026, the Ministry of Tourism is also supporting the implementation of 125 curated activities/events in various regions across Indonesia.
