Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta Provincial Government has deployed 1,200 flood control pumps as part of a rapid response to handle inundation and flooding following heavy rainfall on Saturday night.”I have been coordinating with my staff since last night, especially with the Water Resources Agency. In fact, pumping operations have been underway at several locations since then,” Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said in a statement on Sunday.He explained that the 1,200 pumps comprise 668 stationary pumps across 243 locations and 536 mobile pumps stationed in various flood-prone areas.”Water suctioning is ongoing, including on Daan Mogot Road in West Jakarta and several other major roads,” he added.The governor noted that rainfall in Jakarta and its surrounding areas has been extremely high, with rainfall intensity reaching 264 millimeters—significantly above the daily average.”Rainfall in Jakarta and its surrounding areas reached 264 millimeters today. This is considered extremely high,” he said.Governor Pramono also reminded residents to remain alert and follow official information on the weather conditions and potential flooding in their respective areas.For the medium term, the Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing to bolster flood control through its river normalization program, which is currently carried out in three main rivers: Ciliwung, Cakung Lama, and Krukut.”The normalization of the Cakung Lama River is targeted to be completed by 2027 and is expected to significantly reduce flood risks in several areas of Jakarta,” he said.According to data from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) as of 5 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), flooding has submerged 74 neighborhood units and inundated 15 road sections across various parts of the province.Water levels vary, ranging from approximately 15 centimeters to 1.2 meters in some locations.
