Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta Provincial Government is pushing for a faster energy transition and a 50 percent emissions reduction by 2030 through greater adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).”The population of electric vehicles is growing every year. This is part of our movement to reduce low-carbon emissions. Our ambitious target for 2030 is to reduce emissions by 50 percent,” the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Service, Syaripudin, said on Friday.According to him, this step is taken as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the net-zero emissions target by 2050.Syaripudin considered the annual increase in the population of electric vehicles in Jakarta presents an important momentum for the regional government to strengthen clean energy policies. To support this, the local government is striving to provide easy access to electric vehicle charging facilities for the public by providing 24-hour Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) at an affordable cost.Furthermore, the use of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles will gradually be offset by the growth of electric vehicles.”The largest contributor to air pollution in Jakarta comes from vehicles. With the increasing use of EVs, we hope that air pollution can be further reduced in the future,” he noted. The Jakarta Provincial Government has also begun adopting electric vehicles for its operations, along with the provision of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKL) at various government offices.Regarding data collection on electric vehicle users, Syaripudin stated that his office has collaborated with business players and the state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, to monitor the growth in electric vehicle usage, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled.This data serves as the basis for planning charging infrastructure needs, including proposals for home electric car charging services and the construction of charging stations. He believes that community involvement is also a crucial factor in developing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Jakarta.
