Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is exploring avenues to step up economic cooperation with Switzerland, focusing on trade expansion, capacity-building programs for business actors, and investment in the logistics sector.Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie underlined Switzerland as a strategic partner to Indonesia, highlighting its financial and technological strengths.“Switzerland is not only a major financial power; it is widely recognized for its technology and branding. These strengths are drawing Indonesia to cooperate with Switzerland,” he noted in a statement cited here on Tuesday.Bakrie pointed out that Indonesia and Switzerland had enjoyed evolving ties over the years, with the former recording an annual surplus of around US$2.5 billion, supported by a free trade agreement established four years ago.Against this backdrop, he emphasized Kadin’s determination to further deepen the bilateral partnership through more concrete efforts.The chairman stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in the logistics sector through investment in shipping and port development.He made the statement after a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland I Ngurah Swajaya in Jakarta on Monday (July 27).Their talks covered initiatives to strengthen bilateral ties through trade, investment, technological development, and human resource enhancement.Swajaya applauded Kadin for supporting broader cooperation between Indonesia and Switzerland.The ambassador confirmed that trade between the two countries continues to increase, noting that Indonesia has become an attractive investment destination for Swiss companies.He drew attention to potential investment from Swiss small and medium enterprises, particularly those specializing in technology and innovation and adopting low-carbon practices.Furthermore, he said Indonesia could partner with Switzerland in building the global trading capacity of national business professionals.Francis Wanandi, head of Kadin’s Switzerland-Liechtenstein Bilateral Committee, expressed hope that stronger cooperation with Switzerland would help develop Indonesia’s private sector, enabling domestic industries to become more competitive.
