Ministry guarantees stable rice price ahead of year-end holidays

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the ministry assures the stability of rice prices ahead of the year-end holiday period by optimizing supply and distribution.”Ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, the government ensures the price stability for strategic basic food commodities, especially rice. As of early November 2025, we noted 214 cities and districts recorded a decrease in rice prices,” Sulaiman said, according to an official statement on Sunday.Sulaiman, also serving as the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Head, said that the rice price at the national level remains stable, with the rice provided under the food supply and price stabilization (SPHP) program priced at Rp12,000 per kg.Meanwhile, medium-quality rice in various regions is priced at Rp13,000 per kg, far below the Rp13,500 maximum retail price for the commodity. This trend showed that the price has been under control for the year-end holiday period, he stressed.According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), 214 districts and cities recorded a decrease in rice prices as of the first week of November 2025. This represents a 19.5 percent increase from early October, when only 179 districts and cities saw a decline. In the same period, 50 districts and cities recorded an increase in rice prices, lower than in October, when 61 districts and cities experienced a price rise. The minister stated that to maintain rice price stability, the government has set up the Rice Price Control Task Force since October 20, 2025, which also involves the Indonesian Police, the Trade Ministry, the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), and regional governments. The government will also improve the government rice reserves (CBP) supply in regions to help stabilize prices during a surge in demand, he remarked.
