Poultry exports reach Rp18.2B, reflecting production surplus: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said poultry exports reached Rp18.2 billion (around US$1 million) as of March 2026, reflecting a production surplus and strengthening the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s livestock commodities.“As of March 2026, Indonesia has exported 545 tons of poultry products worth Rp18.2 billion to destination countries such as Singapore, Japan, and Timor-Leste,” he said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday. The exports were dominated by eggs, totaling 517 tons or around 8.13 million eggs, while the remainder consisted of chicken meat and value-added processed products.According to Sulaiman, Indonesia’s poultry export performance has shown a consistent upward trend. In 2024, exports reached around 300 tons valued at approximately Rp11 billion. In 2025, exports rose to about 400 tons with a value ranging between Rp13 billion and Rp15 billion. By March 2026, the volume had already reached 545 tons with a value of Rp18.2 billion. The Ministry of Agriculture recorded a surge in poultry exports in 2026 as Indonesian chicken and egg products became increasingly competitive in global markets, supported by a national production surplus and an aggressive market expansion strategy. The minister stressed that the achievement reflects successful self-sufficiency in animal protein.“We have achieved self-sufficiency in eggs, chicken, rice, and others. Now, we are pushing exports to other countries,” he said.Beyond volume growth, Indonesia’s export structure has begun shifting toward processed products such as nuggets, a move that increases added value and strengthens the competitiveness of the national poultry industry.Export performance is also supported by strong domestic production. Indonesia currently records broiler meat production of 4.29 million tons, while annual consumption stands at 4.12 million tons.Egg production reaches 6.54 million tons, with annual consumption at 6.47 million tons.“These surpluses allow us to expand markets without disrupting domestic needs,” he said.To ensure compliance with international standards, the Ministry of Agriculture continues to strengthen animal health systems, biosecurity, and veterinary certification. Trade diplomacy and efforts to open new market access are also ongoing to expand export reach.Sulaiman added that the ministry aims to further increase both the volume and value of chicken and egg exports through downstream processing and the strengthening of the processing industry.
