We must stop the practice of using the state budget to purchase the same types of goods without coordination,Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto on Friday announced plans to establish a new procurement body to streamline the procurement of goods and services across central and regional government institutions.At the House of Representatives' first plenary session of the 2026–2027 sitting period in Jakarta, he explained that the new body would replace the Government Goods and Services Procurement Policy Agency (LKPP) and be tasked with “consolidating the procurement of goods and services of the same types.”Prabowo said the consolidation was necessary to eliminate what he described as “nonsensical” price disparities in the procurement of the same goods and services by different government institutions.”We must stop the practice of using the state budget to purchase the same types of goods without coordination,” he said.He described the existing procurement system as one involving “thousands of buyers who do not speak to one another” and called for parliamentary support for the consolidation policy.Elaborating further, the president said the plan would establish unified, centralized standards for the prices and specifications of goods and services procured by government institutions.”Government procurement will be carried out digitally to make the process more transparent, competitive, and accountable,” Prabowo said.He reiterated the importance of stronger coordination between central and regional government institutions when planning procurement projects to improve efficiency and value for money.”If the state can procure better goods and services at more favorable prices through cooperation, there is no reason for us to opt out. Institutions will have no reason to stick with unilateral procurement,” he said.Prabowo linked the procurement reform to the government's broader budget-efficiency drive, saying the resulting savings would create greater fiscal space to finance priority programs such as school renovations and healthcare facility upgrades.”The ultimate goal is to improve people's living standards,” he added.He presented the plan during his speech on the 2027 Draft State Budget and its Financial Note, following the annual State of the Nation Address delivered earlier in the day to mark the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day.
