President Prabowo links overseas visits to oil supply push

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto said his recent and upcoming overseas visits are focused on securing oil supplies for Indonesia, as global distribution risks intensify.Addressing around 800 senior officials, including ministers, agency heads and security leaders, he dismissed suggestions that his trips were ceremonial or for leisure.“Ladies and gentlemen, I have to travel here and there to secure oil supply,” Prabowo said at a government work meeting at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. He said rising geopolitical tensions had pushed the government to step up engagement with international partners to safeguard energy security, which he described as critical to economic stability. The president recently visited Japan from March 29 to 31 and South Korea from March 31 to April 1, with a focus on strengthening economic resilience, including cooperation in the energy sector.Prabowo said he plans to travel to another country soon to expand Indonesia’s options for oil procurement. He emphasized that the approach is consistent with Indonesia’s long-standing “free and active” foreign policy, aimed at maintaining balanced relations and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation. The government, he added, is seeking to diversify supply sources to reduce vulnerability to external shocks.Prabowo said ensuring stable energy supplies remains a top priority amid uncertainties in global markets. He expressed confidence in Indonesia’s economic outlook despite mounting international pressures.According to the president, Indonesia is entering a period of strong prospects even as other countries face challenges linked to geopolitical tensions. He said the government is continuing to strengthen policy coordination to anticipate potential disruptions.Prabowo also acknowledged the demands of his role, stressing that leadership requires constant commitment.“Since I have taken office, I must work to the best of my ability. I know no days off,” he said.
