It is a clear violation of Israel’s obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and international human rights law,Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia, along with seven other countries, strongly condemns the horrific actions of extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against participants in the Gaza-bound flotilla while they were in Israeli detention.”Indonesia, along with seven other countries, strongly condemns the appalling, degrading, and unacceptable actions of extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against participants in the Gaza-bound flotilla while they were in Israeli detention,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on platform X on Monday.The joint condemnation was conveyed by the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and United Arab Emirates (UAE).The ministers stress that Ben-Gvir’s deliberate public humiliation of detainees is a disgraceful assault on human dignity.”It is a clear violation of Israel’s obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and international human rights law,” the statement stated.The ministers further deplored and condemned in the strongest terms the illegal and extremist acts of incitement and violence by Ben Gvir and other Israeli officials directed against Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.They warn that Ben-Gvir’s provocative actions fuel hatred and extremism, and obstruct efforts to advance a just and lasting peace on the basis of the two-state solution.They also demand accountability for Ben-Gvir’s actions and call for concrete measures to end his repeated provocations, incitement, and violations, and to prevent him from further threatening and to ensure that such actions are neither tolerated nor repeated.”We stress the imperative of protecting human rights and safeguarding the dignity and humane treatment of all detainees, and ensuring full respect for international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” it stated.According to reports by Al Jazeera, Itamar Ben-Gvir is an ultranationalist Israeli politician and lawyer who currently serves as head of security authorities. He lead the far-right Otzma Yehudit party and is known for his hardline policies.The report also stated that Ben-Gvir's profile is highly controversial. In the past, he has a record of convictions for incitement to racism and support for terrorist organizations (such as Kach). He is known for inciting tensions, including frequent visits to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.Due to Ben-Gvir's extreme views and actions against Palestinians, he has been subject to travel and financial sanctions by various countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. France and Poland have also imposed entry bans on him.
