Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government is exploring potential domestic and foreign investments, including from Russia and China, for the construction of the Trans-Kalimantan railway network, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said.The move follows President Prabowo Subianto's directive to the Ministry of Transportation and state rail operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to fast-track railway network development in Sumatra (Trans-Sumatra) and Kalimantan (Trans-Kalimantan).”We have coordinated with KAI, which has already prepared the roadmap. We hope to secure both domestic and foreign investment to develop the Trans-Sumatra and Trans-Kalimantan railways,” Purwagandhi told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.However, Purwagandhi could not confirm which project will proceed first, stating that timelines depend on investor assessments.”It depends on the investors and which project they find more viable to pursue. For logistics in Sumatra, it seems that KAI is more interested in developing the sector, while China and Russia seem more interested in Kalimantan,” he said.He affirmed that the government has established communication with foreign investors regarding construction plans.Previously, during the inauguration of the revitalized Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java last month, President Subianto instructed PT KAI and the Ministry of Transportation to prioritize the Trans-Sumatra railway project before following up with the Trans-Kalimantan project.”After Trans-Sumatra, we will move on to Trans-Kalimantan. If possible, we will start both simultaneously,” Subianto said.Subianto explained that the Trans-Sumatra line will connect Bakauheni in Lampung, at the southern tip of Sumatra, to the northernmost region of the island.The president stressed that the project represents a mandatory target for PT KAI and the Ministry of Transportation to realize.
