RI Govt to boost 3-kg LPG supply for Christmas, New Year

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia will increase supplies of subsidized 3-kilogram LPG canisters to ensure adequate stocks during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Wednesday. The government has agreed to raise subsidized LPG volume from 8.2 million metric tons to between 8.4 million and 8.5 million metric tons.“It was agreed to increase LPG volume from roughly 8.2 million metric tons to 8.4 or 8.5 million. I don’t recall the exact figure, but it has been approved,” Bahlil said. The decision was reached during a coordination meeting with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and State-Owned Enterprises Authority (BP BUMN) chief Dony Oskaria, which focused on energy readiness ahead of the year-end peak period.“We met with Finance Minister Purbaya and BP BUMN head Dony Oskaria to discuss LPG subsidies ahead of Christmas and New Year. We have to make sure everything is clear,” Bahlil said after briefing President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. He stressed that energy supply readiness must be guaranteed to prevent shortages during the holiday season.Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa met Bahlil at the Energy Ministry office on Tuesday (November 25) to review LPG supply adequacy ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.“We discussed LPG readiness for the year-end period through late 2025, plus projections for 3-kg LPG supply through the end of this year,” said ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia.Dwi said the 3-kg LPG quota for 2025 is set at 8.17 million metric tons, slightly below 2024 realization. However, projected needs reach 8.5 million metric tons.“There is an additional quota of around 0.37 million metric tons, or roughly 370,000 tons,” she said.Despite the quota adjustment, the government will not increase subsidies, as LPG prices remain below the state budget reference level.
