Two Pertamina tankers remain stuck amid renewed Hormuz curbs

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina confirmed that its two tankers—Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro—remain stranded in the Persian Gulf amid ongoing restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, Vega Pita, Acting Corporate Secretary of Pertamina International Shipping, said her team is closely monitoring the “highly dynamic situation” in the waterway.“We continue to coordinate closely with relevant stakeholders, including ministries and other agencies, while working on plans for safe passage,” she emphasized.Pita stressed that the company remains committed to bringing back the loads while prioritizing the safety of the vessels and their crews.“We hope that the situation in the waterway will soon improve and become conducive for both Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro to resume their voyages safely,” she concluded.Earlier, Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that the Iranian government had positively responded to its request to allow the Pertamina vessels to safely pass through the strait. The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has taken follow-up steps on technical and operational aspects, although no specific timeline has yet been determined for the tankers’ passage. On Saturday (April 18), Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) announced its decision to reinstate passage restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz roughly one day after restoring access for commercial shipping, citing the ongoing blockade of Iranian ports by the United States.”Control over the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state, and this strategic waterway is under the strict management and control of the armed forces,” the IRGC joint command stated, according to Iran's semi-official news agency, Tasnim. The corps affirmed that it will hold its grip on the strait until the US “restores full freedom of movement for vessels traveling to and from Iran.”These developments occurred amid an ongoing ceasefire between Iran and the US and Israel.
