WFH policy reduces 9 percent in fuel consumption: minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The work-from-home (WFH) policy implemented by the Indonesian government since April 1 has been proven to reduce fuel consumption by 9 percent, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed.Based on the government’s evaluation, this decrease in consumption was recorded for subsidized fuel Pertalite—which became the basis for the government’s decision to extend the WFH policy for civil servants.”We evaluated WFH for two months and saw quite positive results, with a decrease in Pertalite use in April of nearly 9 percent. So, the results are quite positive, and therefore, the decision was made to continue,” Airlangga said in Jakarta on Tuesday. As part of efforts to improve energy efficiency, the government has officially decided to continue the implementation of a one-day-per-week WFH arrangement for both central and regional government offices for the next two months, starting from June.Meanwhile, for the private sector, the Manpower Minister will issue a circular letter regarding the WFH recommendation.Airlangga considered the extension of WFH implementation an adjustment to economic and employment policies amid current geopolitical and energy crises. However, exemptions apply to essential sectors related to public services, including energy, healthcare, infrastructure, public services, retail and trade, manufacturing, services, food and beverage, transportation and logistics, as well as finance.
