Govt targets renovation of 400 thousand people’s houses in 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government conveyed plans to improve the public housing renovation program in 2026, targeting the renovation of 400,000 housing units across Indonesia.Minister of Housing and Settlements, Maruarar Sirait, said the program expansion was a directive from President Prabowo Subianto to accelerate the provision of decent housing for the public.”There are strategic steps to increase public housing renovation. We are preparing this together with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of State Secretary, and the Cabinet Secretary to renovate public housing throughout Indonesia. Last year, the target was 45,000 houses; this year, it will be 400,000,” he announced at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday. In addition to adding more units, Sirait stated that the program will be rolled out on a national scale. He highlighted that 220 districts and cities were not included last year, but said full nationwide coverage is targeted by 2026.According to him, the housing renovation program aims not only to provide decent housing but also to promote economic equality in the regions.”This is a very significant program that will stimulate the economy and ensure fairness,” the minister continued. The government has also received direction from President Prabowo to utilize state land in urban areas, particularly assets belonging to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in the railway sector, for the construction of public housing complexes. In the past few days, Sirait has inspected several potential plots of land, including in the Tanah Abang area of Jakarta. The land will be developed into vertical housing with a mixed-use concept, catering to low- and middle-income communities, to create an inclusive residential area.”In Bandung, we are also exploring several potential plots of land. At the end of this month, we will begin preparations for development in Bandung with the President Director of PT KAI (state-owned railway operator),” he remarked.
