Danantara export arm DSI posts US$12 billion in forex: Minister

Semarang (ANTARA) – Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) accumulated US$12 billion in foreign exchange during the June-July 2026 period, according to Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan.“The figure rose from around US$3 billion to US$12 billion in one month,” he remarked in Semarang, Central Java, on Monday.Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara established DSI last May as a state-owned enterprise tasked with managing exports of strategic commodities, notably coal, ferroalloys, and crude palm oil (CPO).Hasan noted that DSI was designed to operate as a one-stop channel for natural resources outflowing overseas, a move largely intended to curb illicit practices. He pointed out that Indonesia is blessed with an abundance of high-value resources, such as gold, nickel, coal, and tin, which are yet to be fully capitalized on due to unregistered mining sites.“There are mines that generate dozens of trillions of rupiah without a permit. They have been in operation for decades,” the minister said.Bearing that in mind, he stressed that DSI is expected to help the state curb losses by improving governance of natural resource exports.“It is true that we face issues, but we will tackle them,” he stated, expressing optimism about the reform effort. The latest amount of foreign exchange managed by DSI represents an increase from the US$10.5 billion announced by President Prabowo Subianto during a plenary cabinet meeting in Jakarta last week.At the time, Prabowo described the enterprise as a strategic instrument to eliminate decades-old illegal export practices, such as under-invoicing and transfer pricing, which have long drained the nation’s resource wealth. On under-invoicing, he said unscrupulous exporters frequently registered CPO sales contracts domestically at Rp15,000 per kilogram, despite the actual selling price in European markets reaching Rp27,000 (around US$1.5) per kilogram.“This means we were losing up to 50 percent of our wealth on a single shipment. We are putting an end to this now,” the president affirmed.
