Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) stated that Indonesian shrimp exports to the United States market have reached more than Rp11 trillion (US$638 million), despite previously being affected by a cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination issue.Acting Secretary General of the KKP, Andy Artha Donny Oktopura, said in Jakarta on Monday that shrimp exports had reached around 3,400 containers with a total value of Rp11 trillion as of April 26, 2026.He explained that this achievement was driven by the ministry’s efforts to strengthen a comprehensive fisheries quality assurance system.The system covers production, processing, and distribution stages to ensure compliance with food safety standards in both domestic and international markets.According to Oktopura, Indonesia's fisheries production currently averages nearly 24 million tons per year, approaching 26 million tons. Of this, around 7 million tons come from capture fisheries and around 5 million tons from aquaculture, while the remainder is dominated by seaweed production.The ministry ensures that all production processes, both capture fisheries and aquaculture, meet strict quality standards and are supported by a clear traceability system. In addition, processing and packaging standards are strengthened through certification to ensure product safety until it reaches consumers.Oktopura added that Indonesia’s food quality assurance system has been internationally recognized as it aligns with the standards of export destination countries.“Our quality standards for shrimp have been recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,” he said.Previously, the KKP, as the sole authority issuing Cs-137-free certification, reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong and consistent certification system. The ministry emphasized that maintaining strict quality assurance principles is essential to ensuring Indonesian fishery products remain competitive in the global market.
