Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government plans to phase in restrictions on subsidized fuel, specifically Pertalite, targeting high-income households to safeguard the State Budget (APBN) amid global oil market volatility, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated.”We discussed the possibility of implementing restrictions on Pertalite subsidies for those at the top level,” Minister Purbaya said here on Tuesday, following a bilateral meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.Purbaya explained that the proposed policy would bar individuals in the top income brackets—specifically deciles 9 and 10—from purchasing subsidized Pertalite, requiring them to switch to non-subsidized options instead.He noted that state energy enterprise PT Pertamina already possesses the technical system required to execute the targeted distribution, with implementation scheduled once all regulatory frameworks are finalized.”Maybe it is in deciles 9 and 10, so that in a few months we can reduce it gradually. We are currently studying the system,” he said.Purbaya added that taking decisive control over energy spending is vital given ongoing global crude oil price fluctuations, ensuring that fiscal reserves remain secure through the end of the year.Besides fuel subsidy reforms, the meeting between the two ministers focused on optimizing non-tax state revenue, given that the ESDM Ministry represents the single largest contributor to national non-tax state revenue.”We focused on ensuring that this year's APBN remains secure. The ESDM Ministry makes a substantial contribution to non-tax state revenue, so we discussed strategies there.
