Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) – Indonesia aims to enroll more than 500,000 students in its People’s Schools program by 2030 as the government expands school facilities nationwide to widen access to education for children from the poorest families.Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf said each People’s School building can accommodate up to 300 students, following the inauguration of 166 schools by President Prabowo Subianto in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Monday.”Each People’s School building can accommodate up to 300 students, from elementary to junior and senior high school levels,” Saifullah said.Assuming at least 100 new buildings are completed annually, he said capacity would reach 30,000 students with 100 buildings, 60,000 with 200 buildings, and up to 90,000 students per year if 300 buildings are added.Saifullah said enrollment is projected to exceed 45,000 students in 2026 and rise to more than 400,000 nationwide by 2029, expressing confidence the figure would surpass 500,000 by 2030.At the Banjarbaru inauguration, Prabowo said the government is targeting 500 People’s Schools nationwide by 2029, formally launching operations for the first 166 schools.
