Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government and industry are stepping up efforts to strengthen national energy security amid evolving global dynamics through the 2026 Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention and Exhibition (IPA Convex).“The forum affirms our shared commitment to strengthening national energy security while maintaining the investment attractiveness of Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas sector amid evolving global dynamics,” said Marjolijn Wajong, executive director of the Indonesian Petroleum Association, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.The association noted that rising geopolitical uncertainty has pushed energy security back to the top of national priorities, including in Indonesia.The forum will address energy security challenges that are increasingly linked to financing, highlighting the need for strategies to diversify supply sources and strengthen regional collaboration across energy sectors to enhance resilience.In this context, Indonesia must also remain competitive in attracting upstream oil and gas investment amid heightened geopolitical risks and tighter global capital allocation.The government has introduced strategic policies to ensure the availability of domestic energy supplies, including restricting contractors from exporting their share of crude oil to prioritize domestic needs.While the measure may affect provisions in production sharing contracts (PSC) between the government and contractors, it is considered necessary to reduce dependence on energy imports and maintain national energy stability amid global volatility.As a representative of upstream oil and gas stakeholders, the Indonesian Petroleum Association expressed support for the policy to limit crude oil exports by contractors in order to safeguard national energy security.The association said the policy could be implemented effectively as long as it does not disadvantage any party to the production sharing contracts, emphasizing that both the government and industry share responsibility for ensuring domestic energy needs are met.
