Indonesia records Eid al-Adha livestock surplus: Ministry

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia records Eid al-Adha livestock surplusIndonesia recorded a surplus of sacrificial animals for this year’s Eid al-Adha, with livestock supply reaching 3.2 million head against national demand of 2.4 million, Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono said on Wednesday.Speaking in Jakarta, Sudaryono said the surplus totaled around 800,000 animals, reflecting stable domestic food supply and livestock production capacity.“There is a surplus of around 800,000 animals. Thank God, Indonesia is currently in good condition,” he said.He said the surplus showed Indonesia’s ability to meet demand for sacrificial animals without facing major supply shortages during Eid al-Adha.Sudaryono added that Indonesia had maintained domestic stability despite global conflicts and economic uncertainty.“In a difficult global situation marked by wars, we remain in good condition, and we should be grateful,” he said.According to him, the situation reflected the government’s efforts under President Prabowo Subianto to maintain economic and food security stability.Meanwhile, the ministry’s Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Agung Suganda, said national livestock supplies remained sufficient and under control.“The estimated supply totals 3.2 million head, comprising 860,000 cattle, 34,000 buffaloes, 1.4 million goats and 935,000 sheep,” Suganda said.He said the estimated demand of 2.4 million animals confirmed that domestic livestock production could meet public demand without significant supply constraints.To ensure compliance with health and halal standards, central and regional governments issued guidelines and conducted nationwide education programs for sacrificial animal committees.The programs covered animal health, veterinary public health, animal welfare and slaughter procedures in line with Islamic law and existing regulations.
